I'm Sharon L. Stark and I formed Stark Publishing Company back in 1989 when I saw a strong need for health insurance information targeted to the average consumer. In response to this need, I authored a book titled, Health Insurance Made Easy...Finally.   I have more than 18 years of experience in the health insurance industry and still continue to work informing and educating consumers.

I have worked in various areas of health insurance such as claims, customer service and compliance. I've helped individuals who were starting their own medical billing business and have assisted families with children with disabilities in getting the maximum coverage from their health coverage. Additionally, I have written a Summary Plan Description for a self-funded insurance plan for a community college in California.

I've worked for large insurance companies, third-party administrators, a nonprofit agency and recently just left work as a Senior Compliance Analyst for a middle-sized health insurance company. As a compliance analyst, I wrote policies and certificates of insurance coverage. You know what those are, don't you? Just to refresh your memory, you received a copy of one of these when you became covered under a health plan, probably threw it in the back of some drawer and never looked at until you needed to know if you were covered--or not--for some medical service. It's quite a humbling job to write policies and certificates because no one really ever reads them. But hey, it isn't exactly riveting stuff! I know that.

Medical insurance coverage unfortunately involves lots of legal mumbo-jumbo. The major portion of my job as a compliance analyst was to interpret just what your representatives and senators were trying to say when they enacted a new health insurance law, and then put it all into words that people like you and I could understand.
